| "It Came From Vapor" Free Download on Darkwinter |
[Oct. 31st, 2009|03:08 pm] |

"It Came From Vapor" is a series of short to mid-length tracks by dark ambient project Mister Vapor. Moods vary. The music tends to be swirling and melodic, like a tuneful fog. Included, incidentally, is an authorized remix of one of Kit Watkins' famous "Thought Tones" pieces. This release makes for easy listening in the darker spectrum.

Not much new here. Been enjoying my new position at the local library. It keeps me a little busier. As for music, I am an independent artist again, which is liberating. Best wishes to my old label. I was unable to adhere to their policy of only releasing "official" cds (not cdrs) or vinyl. Those deals are hard to find, so that effectively hamstrung my operations as an active indie musician. And I guess I am not in it for the money, as there are 2 things I would have to do that I am not going to do: 1. Go on tour. I will do some live stuff, like my show on WDBX, but I am keeping it small for now. I don't like performing much in front of groups. 2. Acquire a huge expensive studio. I can't afford it, and am not going to do it. I enjoy PC sample manipulation, and that' where it's at for me. So, I guess I won't be rich or famous from music. But I sure will have fun!

| Still Alive |
[Oct. 9th, 2009|05:54 pm] |
To quoteth Pearl Jam, I am "Still Alive".
I have a new position at the library so I am working a bit more, and music is taking a little of a back seat-- though I was pleased to hear that a New Zealand dance troupe will be using some of my stuff for a festival. That has never happened before!
I am also trying to lose 10 pounds, so I can gain 5 of it back for Christmas.
Christmas? That's right, folks, it's coming up-- mark my words. |

| Nunc Stans and Mystified: One Thousand Dreams |
[Oct. 2nd, 2009|08:01 am] |

A collaboration between Nunc Stans (Anthony Paul Kerby, Canada) and Mystified (Thomas Park, USA)
An immersive set of richly detailed dreamscapes that flow and shift with a sophisticated ease and engaging lyric beauty. Expect a haunting mix of grainy drone, sonic curiosities, and occasional treated field recording, all bound together by exquisite drawn-out melodic lines.
The origin of this work is a set of long drone pieces crafted by Thomas from recordings of sferics (electrical discharges in the atmosphere). These flowing treated noise pieces then served as the basis for Anthony's more synth-based accompaniments and sonic embellishments.

| Seetyca With Mystified- "Arctic Isolationism" [treetrunk094] |
[Sep. 26th, 2009|08:03 am] |

This release originally came out in 2004 on Seetyca's "Mbira" label as a cdr. It is a series of arctic ambient pieces inspired by the Jensen Arctic Museum in Monmouth. The conception was Seetyca's, and mystified added a few soundloops and other elements. Final mixing was by Artin Mucht. The result is stark, cold, and beautiful-- Treetrunk hopes you enjoy it.

Cosmic and dreamy ambient from US based artist Thomas Park. It is an essay on sublime space music. Hearkening back to early Brian Eno, the emphasis is on quiet melodies and limitless spaces. The first release in the "Cosmoaudiography" series. First 10 comes with A3 size poster.

| Free Remixes Of Mystified: Collusion |
[Sep. 19th, 2009|02:48 am] |

In Mid-2009, mystified asked some of his peers if they would try remixing his sounds. He was especially happy with 9 of these remixes, and wanted to release them together to give people a chance to listen.
These 9 remixes vary in style but all are high in quality and all do exciting things with the sounds of mystified.

APK of Nunc Stans fame (and chief of the ambient label DataObscura) recently agreed to remix some sounds by mystified. After a few weeks of intense effort, APK finished 6 tracks, about 62 minutes. I was able to listen to the tracks last night, and they were just phenomenal. APK has a different approach than mystified-- he is more focused on melody and likes lots of tiny electro-acoustic details. This worked really well-- opposites collided and something cool happened. The APK-ish melodies keep the songs interesting, and the electro-acoustic dark minimal elements help to develop APK's sonic palette. I feel that this music fits into space music (of the "look at the night sky" variety). I also has a kind of "!000 Arabian Nights" quality, hence, I assume, the title "One Thousand Dreams". I am really anxious to share this release with people, and am currently negotiating how that will work out.

| Gritty Drones, Urban Rhythms |
[Aug. 24th, 2009|02:08 pm] |

Musician mystified decided to flirt a little with modern urban audiences. Not to "sell out", per se, or even to attempt to, say, "rap", but to remix some gritty drones, adding rhythmic structures. This is the slightly industrial sound of cities-- tones for threading between skyscrapers and through overpasses and parking garages.

I contacted a failry prominent artist last night hoping to collaborate. I do this on occasion. This was a pretty big fish, a prominent dark ambient artist, also known as being a bit overbearing. Interestingly, I had him into the idea at the e-mail stage. But when I sent samples he absolutely could not stand them and gave me about 10 stern reasons why he did not want to work with me. I was a little shocked, but the more I think about it, the more I realize-- what was I expecting? If that's what it takes to be "in", I guess I am happy being "out".
