Mister Vapor and Witte Dood Records are proud to present a new release-- a 3" cdr from Witte Dood Records called "Astral". The piece is both dark and melodic, and was composed by converting sounds derived from planet earth into ambient tones. For more information:

A Gentle, Floating Constant Piece By Mister Vapor [Jul. 11th, 2009|05:41 am]

This version of "Constant", by Mister Vapor, uses blurred and effected sferics, which are sounds emitted by the earth. Less stable than the earliest of Constants, "Constant 25" nonetheless provides a nice, consistent floating sound bed perfect for deep listening.

"Constant" pieces, for those unfamiliar, are musical works based on being as minimal as possible-- finding the least possible thing necessary for listening. These pieces tend to be drone in nature. The original Constant appeared on Webbed Hand Records ( www.webbedhandrecords.com ), and others have been released at the TZP Drone Company ( http://www.archive.org/details/tzpdc ) and also here at Treetrunk.

Free Drone Release: Cosmic Howling [Jul. 2nd, 2009|04:00 pm]

When Thomas of Mystified offered us to release some of his music we didn't hesitate a second! So here comes an excellent album of mysterious droning music, abstract & spacey sound studies with sometimes warm melancolic overtones, and sometimes colder and harsher sounds. Don't miss this new fascinating trip in Mystified's subtle (unmistakable but ever-changing) world of sound...

On Vox: Sunday [Jun. 28th, 2009|10:21 am]

I ordered a new laptop yesterday. I have been thinking about this for some time. I am transforming my (newer) networking PC into a music machine, and using the laptop for communications, when it arrives. Can't wait!

Today a friend and I will be watching "Bad Lieutenant". I have dim memories of the film from college days. I checked out the dvd from the library where I volunteer.

It's nice to be back in town.

I also just wanted to reiterate something I said before-- music is a rock and roll experience. People do not universally love what you do, be you mystified or Yo Yo Ma or Michael Jackson.

Yesterday I received a negative review of a cd of mine, and just recently a major label said I was too prolific to appear on their roster. On the other hand, yesterday ambient Kit Watkins and I agreed to collaborate, which I am very excited about.

If the world is a mirror, it is like a funhouse mirror, warped and twisted.

Netrelease: Mystified's Endless Flutter [Jun. 28th, 2009|08:24 am]

Mystified transformed some of his popular drone tracks by adding soft beats and light synth touches.

Take a hazy journey through your mind.

Free Mayan-Themed NetRelease [Jun. 27th, 2009|06:46 pm]

Mystified and Ctephin split

"Quetzal is a mind bogglingly great collection of intense music that we can only describe as tribal ambient noise - and we use the word intense very deliberately. Indeed, the first time we listened to this album we were blown away by the energy and sheer ferocity of the music, as wave after wave of sound poured over us like the billowing plume of smoke from an open incense cauldron. The hand percussion, noise elements, and overall sound design blend magically like an ancient witch's brew, filling the senses with shamanic visions and sounds from vanished civilizations. Some of the most sensual and evocative music we have heard in a very long time."

On Vox: Back [Jun. 27th, 2009|06:50 am]

I am back from a 4-day excursion to Central Kansas to visit my grandma and other relatives. The trip went fine. People seem to be doing well, though grandma has basically lost her short-term memory, which is frustrating for all of us, her included.

I took the train back from Kansas, and an extremely obese woman sat by me at the Jeff. City stop. Not to be size-ist, but it really was uncomfortable, so I tried to sit in the dining car for awhile and eventually moved into an empty seat in the car behind me.

It's funny being in a family of staunch Republicans. They are totally unlike me politically and really love Sarah Palin. I tried very hard not to say anything and I think I succeeded.

I am anxious to get things rolling on the home front again.

On Vox: Full Circle [Jun. 20th, 2009|04:47 pm]

In college, I was a late-night DJ for a freeform show on WNUR-FM, Northwestern University's radio station.

The rock show for the station was pretty prestigious.

Needless to say I would have never dreamed of having my music played there.

But it looks like, 3/30/2009, my Alma Mater station played a track from the vinyl I sent them, "Pulse Ringer Pieces" (Droenhaus, 2009) during their rock show:

On Vox: Demo Fun [Jun. 20th, 2009|10:29 am]

Not all may realize this, but a lot about being an indie musician is selling yourself. And honestly, it can seem a little unnatural-- submitting demos. You put a part of yourself out there for others to listen and critique, and sometimes they say "no". Sometimes they even say worse things.

There have been lots of nice highpoints in my music career of late, but this morning I found myself in a familiar situation-- having lots of demos and not knowing where to shop them. Receiving "no" answers in various shapes and forms, some due to heavy schedules, others because the music is "not their cuppa".

Interestingly, one of the main responses-- THE main response, in fact, is silence. No reply. You might find later on Last FM that the label indeed listened to the tracks, but they were not dedicated enough to reply to your query. This is true for big and small labels both.

Even with the headway I've made, I still only get confirmed for about 1 out of every 4 demos I submit. The most common answers are silence or "no".

Since I am not Ringo Starr, this will probably not change.

On Vox: Update [Jun. 18th, 2009|04:03 am]

Not too much new here-- the hunt for extra work continues-- it's beginning to look a lot like the "Mad TV" skit, "Lowered Expectations". I am jockeying for volunteer positions. Sheesh.

I just read an article about how a lot of people get turned down for things like AmeriCorps. Personally, I'd like to hop on board.

Music is a rock and roll experience, as always. Lots of demos rejected, some accepted. The Nocturnal Emissions thing is, of course, exciting. And I have been collaborating with PBK and The Implicit Order, thanks, in part, to C. Reider. Fun!

My Dad is in town, so I am a little stressed, though it is nice to see him. Sometimes it's just hard to get all of my ducks in a row all at once. . .

Hellwaste Revisited on Magnatune [Jun. 16th, 2009|08:05 am]

Exciting news! A fresh mystified release is available at cutting-edge digital download site, Magnatune. Magnatune is a user-friendly music site where you can preview entire albums for free and help to determine the price you pay for purchases. For these reasons alone, you should consider surfing in.

"Hellwaste Revisited" takes another look at the drones from "Hellwaste", adding rhythmic and melodic components. The release is drone set to techno/electronica. Now "Hellwaste" is an essay on drone you can dance to, or simply chill out with headphones. Early listeners have been very enthusiastic about this one-- it is bound to be popular.

Free Ambient Mix For Meditating Or Study [Jun. 11th, 2009|02:38 pm]

A little cliche? Maybe so, but as mystified has made more and more friends into disciplines such as meditation, yoga, and even writing while listening to music, he decided to jump on the New Age bandwagon and create a mix of some of his tranceist material to be used for such activities. 9 pieces are included in this mix, from a variety of mystified releases, some netreleases, others cdrs. The tracks are carefully cross-faded to allow for a smooth listening experience.

A typical New Age experience? Maybe a little darker and moodier than many, but in a way. . . you be the judge.

On Vox: Collab. [Jun. 11th, 2009|02:00 pm]

OK, I am spilling the beans. It's Nigel Ayers of Nocturnal Emissions I am working with. We each have remixed the same sounds to create 2 singles and may be releasing a 7" vinyl soon.

Werd.
